At this time, we are charging a $200 adoption fee. The reason for this fee is the costs that are incurred in acquiring and keeping the dogs we rescue. We generally have to give shots, spay or neuter and pay any other necessary veterinary costs. If we get a dog out of the shelter, we usually have to pay the same fees as everyone else. Then there are the daily costs of housing & feeding each dog . On rare occasions we have shipped dogs from out of state in order to save them from being euthanized. All of these costs add up quickly. We must be ready sometimes at a moments notice to go and pick up a dog that is in a bad situation. We have no public funding. All of our income comes from adoption  fees, donations and any fund raising events that we may hold.

We recently got a bitch in that needed spaying, a hernia repaired, full shots and dental work. The $200 adoption fee did not cover her veterinary bills. When we adopt out dogs who don't cost us as much, we put the money back into our account, then use it to help the next dog. The need is great. Puppymills and so called "breeders" refusing to take their puppies back or to properly screen their new puppy homes in the first place are not helping this situation. (Reputable breeders know they are responsible for their dogs their entire lives). These poor animals have to pay for impulse buying at petstores, ect., only to later be dumped at a shelter or wherever, simply because they act like a Jack Russell. Sorry for the soapbox but I have been to the shelters and seen their innocent faces. I have seen their pictures on the internet and read their stories. We can only save them one at a time. But, if we all help, we can save some.
Why are there adoption fees at all?
